Below is an email from our Tuesday morning portrait artist, Mary Shapiro. I liked it so much I thought you might too. It is very informative.

Hello Friends,  Starting Friday, September 12th, for the next two weeks there will be an exhibition of portraits (all media) of notable Newburyporters.  Area artists were asked to do an artistic rendition of someone, living or dead, who they felt deserved to be honored. I choose Maureen Daley who founded the Newburyport Montessori School and has been active in the theater scene in town for many years.  I have completed an oil on canvas painting of Maureen and I hope you’ll all drop by the art association to view it. You’ll also be treated to seeing and learning about the other important people represented in the show. Each portrait has a statement next to it detailing the accomplishments of the person portrayed. The portraits and the statements will be in a book available for purchase.

The NAA has never done an exhibition like this before and I hope they get lots of first timevisitors to their galleries to see this provocative and fun display of work highlighting some of Newburyport’s fine citizens.

Fondly,

Mary Shapiro
