About Pat Lutz and our Helpers

Pat LutzI started teaching art out of my home over twenty years ago. I was starting to get quite a few students so, with much fear and trepidation, I decided to open a full scale business.

So, in 1987, my husband Chuck & I began looking for retail space for the studio. Fortunately, we discovered the Tannery and our wonderful landlord, David Hall. There was a small space upstairs in the main mall that we thought we could work with. At that time Chuck was doing a lot of photography and we decided to teach art and photography together. There was just enough room for a couple of tables and a tiny darkroom. We built some cabinets to hold artwork and supplies and we were on our way. Because we were both teaching, we called it Lutz & Lutz Studios.    (more)

Marge Recke, R.N., M.Ed.

Marge Recke, R.N., M.Ed., (left in photo) was one of the first students at The Artists Playground, back when we were upstairs in the Tannery Mall and was called Lutz & Lutz Studios. When Marge retired from her position as a consultant in the nursing profession in the year 2000, she started volunteering during our morning classes.Marge Recke

Her experience as a teacher, coupled with her experience as an art student, has given her a unique perspective. Marge loves to help new students to get off on the right foot. Her favorite things to teach are the Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting. With her great organizational skills she is really able to focus on the needs of our new students and steer them in a good direction with the student having fewer 'false starts' that might otherwise have been the case.

When she started painting, Marge worked mostly in oils. Now she is working in watercolors and pastels. She has been consistently selling her work over the years and has had many group and 'one woman' shows.

Mary Goldsmith, R.N.
Mary Goldsmith, R.N., started taking oil painting lessons at The Artists Playground about 10 years ago. She has gone on to learn drawing and watercolor. Recently, Mary is enthusiastically developing her creativity by producing original images using digital art combined with ink jet transfers and gelatin prints. She is finding within herself the same limitless potential she encourages in our kids.

Mary has volunteered with us for 7 years, helping with the Monday afternoon kids class. Everyone loves her because she is incredibly gentle, supportive and encouraging. Mary loves children and started volunteering when her 2 daughters went off to college.

Mary also has a Hypnotherapy practice here at the Tannery. calmhypnobirth.com
